waiting

parakkum is flying in today. i'm pretty happy.

this doesn't change that i still have a ton of stuff to do and no tv, but those aren't necessarily all that important.

after all, everyone always has tons of stuff to do.

for your amusement:

languidsexy
Languid-Sexy....
You rock the messy hair and crisp white cotton
sheet. Your idea of bliss is a day spent in
bed with your lover. There is nothing wrong
with that, though some people like to leave the
bed at times. You're a total fox, even if you
are a hedonistic bum.

if i value my independence or intellectual stimulation more:
romanticsexy
Romantic-Sexy....
Your fantasies involve love, not lust. You are a
fantastic kisser, and for very good reason:
it's your favorite thing. You are sappy as
hell, and you don't care who knows it.

which confuses me, because you would think that valuing your independence and wanting intellectual stimulation would guide you away from sappy, romantic thoughts.

oddness. :)

outrageous

what is up with the book prices these days? i mean geez...

$14 for a paperback?

when i'm rich, i suppose that won't matter. :)

in the meanwhile, here is my wishllist for you people to spend money on me. :)

i'll add the link to the side as well.

no longer stranded in LA

i don't know if people could tell, but i'm no longer stranded in LA. after waiting 50 minutes on the phone to talk to a SWA agent on sunday night, i rebooked for a 1245pm flight out of LA on monday. from then on, i was checking on the status of my flight online. it started the day off by being delayed to 118pm.
then 141pm
then 225pm
then 300pm.

i was pondering on driving up to san jose, but both my mom and parakkum didn't want me to. they preferred my waiting at the airport to catch the plane.

in the end, i had lunch with my mom, came back to the airport around 2, waited until 315ish to board, and our plane took off at 4. by the time i got home, it was 7.

so i was only a day late in returning. :p :)

i think the ashes in the air were making me sick. sunday night, i ran a fever and had difficulty breathing with muscle and joint aches like those from flus. i plan on seeing a GP about this at some point, because i don't want to have pneumonia again.

right now, i'm coughing up the rest of the ashes that are in my lungs and watching my bunnies play. i was really happy to pick them up this morning.

i think beau is a little put off that i ditched them for the weekend. he hasn't given me any bunny kisses yet.

he's also shedding right now, which makes him look like a really weird stuffed animal. his fur is so ugly, it's cute. :)

some people are just silly...

but we already know that :)

here's a funny post from ken's blog, regarding beanie babies and divorce

You represent... anger.
You represent... anger.
Mad at the world, eh? You have a tendency to...
freak out easily. Overly emotional about
everything, you're most prone to bouts of
cruelty and moodiness. Other people may be
afraid of the fact that you explode so easily,
but at least you're honest... even if you're

i change one answer, and i get this:
You represent... hope.
You represent... hope.
You're quite a daydreamer and can be a hopeless
romantic. You enjoy being creative and don't
mind being alone at times. You have goals, and
know what you want in life... even if they are

You represent... naivete.
So innocent and trusting... you can be very shy at

how to act. You give off that "I need to
be protected vibe." Remember that not all

more on my strandedness...

kwc posted this on his blog. now i have an idea of what the bad air i'm breathing looks like from the outside:

my old neighborhood is on fire

that satellite picture is pretty gross. and i can only hope that things will be better with the airports by tomorrow... :P

i mean... i want to get to san jose before parakkum does. :)

stranded in LA

i don't know if people have heard.... there are massive forest/brush fires in southern california. so now... they have greatly impacted functions in the airports. southwest decided to cancel all flights for the evening from LAX.

so now i'm home with my parents and sister again. not that i mind. i mean... i had another good home-cooked meal and i got to hang out with my family more...

i'm just going to end up missing classes tomorrow. unfortunately, i have a test scheduled for my morning one and a critique for my 330.

hopefully, i'll be back up there soon. :)

for now... i will fill my brain with northern renaissance art.

my luck with restaurants in san jose

i've been very spoiled by cheap and good food at berkeley for 5 years. i've been trying to find good restaurants that won't cost $10+ from berkeley prices here in san jose.

it has been a challenge.

but me and mike finally found a vietnamese restaurant that has good food, cheap prices and open past 10pm, which is when everything else closes around here. in fact, it's open till 3am on weekends.

so we were very happy.

and i took parakkum there on thursday for lunch.... to find out that it had burned down. :P

i was so sad, i almost cried.

i'm just hoping that it will open again within the year. *cross fingers*

until then... i'll just have to explore some more. :)

October 18, 2003

renfaire

drove down to hollister for renfaire today. it was pretty fun. :)

i got a little flower garland thing for my hair, decided that costumes were neat but too expensive and that fairies should be limited to little girls and older women and NOT skanky teenagers.

then again... there were a lot of cleavages.

a lot of cleavages holding things. :p

but yeah... turkey legs are good, and so are corn on the cobs with butter.

i liked the jousting. mike said that that was pretty much how medieval times is like, so i have even less need to go there now. :)

lots of dust though. i need to shower again.

October 17, 2003

some guy's reviewed these 100 books

i particularly enjoyed the one about ulysses

the top 100 novels, reviewed

bunnies~!!! cu--te bunnies~!!

bunny pictures!

ken posted this for me on 1010blog, but this link is for those that don't read 1010blog.

there are a lot of bunny pictures from shelters in the archives.

really.... if you're going to get a bunny, i encourage using the shelters.... they end up being killed, at the animal shelters, if they can't find a home. and the rabbit shelters put in a lot of effort, time and money to help bunnies not get there.

the house rabbit society - for those who want to know more.

remember gargoyles?

dvd release

isn't it exciting??

i've been watching this pretty steadily on toon disney. i accidently stumbled onto the gargoyles in high school. and i was really excited to find out that they were airing them again.

now a dvd~

so cool. :)

(yes, i know i'm a major dork.)

15 bonfire of the vanities
16 a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy

parts:
catcher in the rye
a farewell to arms
gone with the wind
the lord of the rings

random house list of 100 greatest books

the other lists

my results:
the board's list

1 the great gatsby
2 catch-22
3 the grapes of wrath
4 1984
5 animal farm
6 lord of the flies
7 heart of darkness
8 the call of the wild

parts:
a farewell to arms

the reader's list:
1 catch-22
2 the great gatsby
3 the grapes of wrath
4 lord of the flies
5 heart of darkness
6 the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
7 ender's game
8 starship troopers
9 the call of the wild
10 watership down
11 one flew over the cuckoo's nest

parts:
the lord of the rings
the catcher in the rye
gone with the wind
a prayer for owen meany
farewell to arms

as people can see, there are a lot of duplications. and man.... some dorks really liked ayn rand and heinlein. which is just odd. now... i think heinlein is ok, but he definitely became the dirty old man as he got older.

i'm not surprised that i didn't do too well on this, as i don't actually like a lot of american literature.

The 100 greatest novels of all time...??? (this may be debatable)

the list

i thought it's a little funny... they left out some key people and they have a big representation of boring, bad, english stuff. go figure, the list was put together by the british.

here's what i've read:
1 the count of monte cristo
2 jane eyre
3 the scarlet letter
4 the brothers karamazov
5 the picture of dorian gray
6 the call of the wild
7 the great gatsby
8 nineteen eighty-four
9 charlotte's web
10 lord of the flies
11 catch-22
12 gulliver's travel
13 robinson crusoe
14 huckleberry finn
15 dr jekyll and mr hyde

i took care to not count books that i only read some of and couldn't get through (like wuthering heights) and books that i'm still reading (the lord of the ring series).

still... i think i'm doing alright for now. :)

here are the partials:
emma
wuthering heights
moby-dick
little women
catcher in the rye (i lost this book while i was reading it, so never finished)

basically, this has ellicited much violence and resentment from the 1010golf crowd. :)

AFI's 100 greatest american movies of all time

movie list

1 the wizard of oz
2 the graduate
3 star wars
4 psycho
5 one flew over the cuckoo's nest
6 e. t. the extra-terrestrial
7 apocalypse now
8 jaws
9 snow white and the seven dwarfs
10 amadeus
11 the sound of music
12 fantasia
13 raiders of the lost arc
14 vertigo
15 forrest gump
16 dances with wolves
17 my fair lady
18 goodfellas

parts:
it's a wonderful life
wuthering heights

this only confirms my cultural illiterateness. :)

apparently, it offended her. she nudged her nose under the cover and shoved it closed.

neato, eh?

October 12, 2003

congratulations~

to mike and bernadette for tying the knot today!!

booze, art and movies

for my movie marathon i had on friday....
- brasilia, lavendar, mint, chai, honey nugget chocolates....yummm
- riesling, guwertstraminer, menage a trois blanc and menage a trois red
- barbarella, city of lost children, clue, a mighty wind - all pretty crack-smoking, to watch a big "huh??" over your head, especially when you have down-to-earth, sensual chocolate and a wine bottle and a third to yourself

yesterday...
art: gates of paradise, a second cast of the second set of doors you'll find as the eastern set of doors for the baptistery of the Florentine Cathedral (aka. Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore), available and easily accessible (though parking royally sucked) in SF
movie: Dopamine, the third movie in the Sundance Movie Festival, which apparently is playing for two more weeks at 10 different locations, all Loews Theaters, in places like LA, New York, SF, Seattle, etc etc.... it's a pretty cool movie, dealing with the ideas of love as a spontaneous magical thing vs. love as a biochemical thing driven by hormones and pheromones. it was touching and we got to talk to the director/writer after, which was cool. note bien: suspend your scientific belief at the door.
booze (and food): gnocchis~!! gnocchi al funghi with four cheese sauce again... and gnocchi ricotta and spinach with pesto. both really really good. polished off with tiramisu. the booze? apple-tini and italian flag. mike had to drive home. anyone know how long it takes to metabolize alcohol? since those two teeny drinks shouldn't have hit me as hard as they did? parakkum thinks it may also have been because i was dehydrated. mike thinks it's because we hadn't eaten in a while. i think it's being dehydrated, empty stomach and the bottle and third of wine i had the night before with lack of sleep. what do you think?

so there were a lot of stupid people in SF. after all, there are a lot of stupid people everywhere and SF has a lot of people. you encounter a lot of them when you're driving. i have to note on the crazy/insane/irresponsible pedestrians though. the ones that are jaywalking with their family (little children, old grandma) trailing after them. jaywalking with stroller. jaywalking with child when not all cars are visibly stopped. etc etc.

but there was a particularly rude/stupid person at the borders i went to in union square. i was telling mike how the lurlene mcdaniels' books are "slit my throat" books, that they horribly romanticize terminal diseases and health conditions, develop relationships that really aren't appropriate for the social context in which the people are involved, how they had my friends writing wills at the healthy age of 12. and this chick (borders salesperson stacking away books next to us) just butts in with "well, a lot of these books help teens deal with their problems.

1) she butted into my conversation uninvited, but i thought the statement was a fair one. some books do help with dealing with your issues.

so i listed a few that i thought did that, cynthia voight, judy blume, etc... and commented that the lurlene mcdaniels books just oversimplified, overdramatized, and romanticized horrible situations and wouldn't really be a help at all. things like cystic fibrosis, leukemia, organ transplants, etc etc.

she starts talking about how she knew a kid that died of leukemia when she was 9 and she was sad about this. and that with a cop father and a english teacher/librarian/major she experienced losing people she knew every month and her mom would censor what she read and that she grew up at a time where kids thought it was cool to be in gangs.

2) i'm not that much younger than you, i do actually remember when kids thought being in gangs were cool. actually, anyone who saw any amount of tv at the time would know that. not to mention that if your mom was screening your books, she would screen out the lurlene mcdaniels books as being trash, which i readily recognized as an ELEVEN year-old. and given the fact that most people don't read, i really doubt that these books would help people.

so i mentioned that well... it's fine that these books can help people and i recognize that they can do that, but that i'm not going to recognize that all books are well-written since a lot of books aren't.

she says that working in a bookstore for 2 years has taught her that half the books are crap.

3) so why are you bitching at me about these books helping kids when they obviously don't read, the way that she doesn't, and she already thinks that half of the books are crap anyway? what's up with these people that think it's ok to talk about things they know jack-shit about?

mike says that i was obviously antagonized by this rude girl that interrupted our conversation and started to be all stupidly argumentative about things.... but apparently she didn't notice.

in hindsight, i should've just said "i didn't invite you into this conversation, can you not talkt o me." and that would've made me feel like i'm being rude, but i really ought to just cultivate rudeness in myself and tell people off when they deserve it.

end story.

October 10, 2003

remember nemo?

not the captain, the fish.

yummy

chocolate, wine and crack-smoking movies

i am happy off of wine and 8 different bars of really good chocolate.

we've already watched barbarella and now we're watching the city of lost children.

my main commentary about the two:
barbarells has definite influences of dropping acid, smoking pot and other recreational drugs.
city of lost children is a more sophisticated drug influenced movie. after all, they actually use symbolism and they've obciously spent more money on the production.

here's a question about movies of the late 60s and early 70s... what is it about the made up fake languages?

i mean... the star wars holiday special was mostly in wookie.

on a lighter note...

i'm going to have lots of chocolate and wine and movies tomorrow. yay~.

i know that at least my friend agustin and mike will be there. maybe amanda (if her time conflict resolves) and sal (from my art class) says he might come, though later around 9.

most of the movies are ones i haven't watched yet:
barbarella
dr. no
city of lost children
chocolat
delicatessen

i don't know what else. :)

fun fun. :)

(i sound a lot more energetic than i actually am. i woke up at 11 today. which is a record time for me, usually only happens when i'm really really tired or sick. still i'm inwardly grealy excited about tomorrow, even if all i can do right now is sit and type.)

why i couldn't live anywhere other than the bay area...

because the rest of the state is retarded:

the depressing truth

i'm just wondering how one decides that an actor is a great person to have as your state's governor. man... the republicans are basically going buck wild.

i mean... i like some of arnold's movies, and that's what he does. i fear him as a politician.

after all... with the US being #1 in economic power and california being #5... the prospects are too depressing. here's hoping that the republicans can't screw things up too much in the next few years.

at least prop 54 didn't pass. whew. i swear, this country is trying to move backwards, starting with dumn political leaders like bush. dumb terrorists.

done redoing my first painting

my color theory class if the first time that i've seriously been introduced to paints. so needless to say, my first project didn't really look that pretty. the design was ok.. it was more the presentation, neatness, technical prowess...?

anyway... i had my midterm critique on tuesday and i got a B+ mainly because i needed to clean up my first painting. and since these were more of a progress report, and i refuse to get a B from SJSU, i started to redo it.

it is finally done.

yay~

my friend just told me that he bought 8 different kinds of yummy chocolate for tomorrow. we're thinking of riesling wine and guttenweiner/guttensflskjdf (some german wine with an oomlat in it) and the yummy wines that i got from napa. good stuff, eh?

give me a call if you want in on the action. :)

October 07, 2003

recall election...

so it looks like from the trend that arnold is getting the greatest number of votes...

*sigh*

well... here's hoping that the recall won't go through...

damn updated results... and go figure that i have an exam tomorrow

did you vote today?

remember to vote~

my two cents:
no on the recall
bustamante
no on 53
no on 54

i have my computer back~

so.... i did something that is apparently considered impossible. admittedly, if i'd known what a hassle it would be, i'm not sure i would've tried to update the harddrive in my beloved ibook. the impossible task

- we started the whole process with backing up my old hard drive on will's work server last friday.
- we commenced taking apart my laptop on saturday. we found out on this day that replacing a hard drive in an ibook means taking the back apart, removing the keyboard, unhooking the trackpad and speakers and taking the front off. in the middle of this, we'd managed to strip a screw badly, so will had to take it out with a drill. we finished on sunday
- now i'm moving all my files and trying to restore all my bookmarks, preferences and whatnot.

but now i have a 60gb hard drive. yay~ :)

now for some mindless personality tests:

Your Heart is Red

What Color is Your Heart?
brought to you by Quizilla

this next one just had really fun questions :)
Season = Spring
You're Most Like The Season Spring ...

Fresh faced, with a young outlook on life - you
smile at the world and expect it to smile back
at you. You're mostly a bubbly, fun - innocent
person. Described as cute possibly. However,
you're a little naive about things and tend to
be a little too trustworthy.
As the first season, It Makes you the youngest -
and so most immature - but people are inclined
to look out for and protect you.

Well done... You're the most fun of the seasons :)

Yes, you will always be remembered for your good
ways. You seem to be close and caring around
your family and other people you really know.
You will be a major loss for them. There will
be an empty spot once you are gone. It may
sound morbid to you, but it could also be good.
Keep on with your great ways. You will have a
beautiful funeral.

What Type of Funeral Will You Have? Will You Be Missed Once You're Gone?

did i mention that i don't want a traditional funeral? i haven't decided whether i'd want to be cremated/buried/donated to science, but i know that i'd rather have a potluck where people can come and talk with each other. none of this wearing black and weeping while trying to make the dead person sound like a saint, forgetting all the other fun/mean/weird things about them.

October 02, 2003

done with first midterm :)

i took my first midterm today. i don't want to feel like i'm jinxing things, so i'll just say that it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.

i've been pretty busy with schoolwork lately and it seems like things will stay that way.

i have....
monday: 2D concepts project due
wednesday: midterm
thursday: color theoryproject due
friday/saturday: should go to museum
10/13 monday: museum paper due
10/21 tuesday: human sexuality writing portfolio due

and my studio classes will probably be assigning me projects pretty consistently throughout all this, so i'm guessing that i'll just be busy for a while.

oh well. :)
