Don't cha?

Don't cha just hate it when you get a song stuck in your head? Especially one where all you know is the hook, or perhaps the chorus, and it goes round and round like a hamster stuck in a wheel? That wouldn't be so bad except I've done it with 3 different songs today. One was the not really a song snippet from the hobbit's bad (thankfully can't remember the snippet anymore). Another was Dreamweaver (because I was using the software and someone sang the snippet - doh!) and now it's an insipid snippet of a song called "Don't cha". Shoot me now.

(I suppose it's not as bad as the random Bon Jovi medley I made up in my head in Berlin a few years ago, or as bad as being stuck on the Gilligan's Island theme, but still. I'd like to thump the record player in my head to get it off the scratch in the record - but oh well. If you are too young to get the reference - don't tell me about it. I'll have to hurt you.)

Good technology karma

I don't know what I did to deserve this, but apparently I've done something good to deserve new technology. How sad is it that I'm all excited about getting a new computer at work finally? It's not all that snazzy and fast, but it was like Christmas in my cube before I left - got a new flat screen monitor (don't know what I'm going to do with all the additional space on my desk), new ergo keyboard, and a laptop that's actually portable!

More rambling in the extended.

My old laptop was portable so long as you had a network cable with you. It was so old that IT wouldn't give me a wireless card, and I wasn't about to buy one (it's the principle of the thing). Oh, and the battery didn't work and IT wouldn't give me a new one of those either, so you also had to carry the power cord as well.

So now I have a spiffy new flat monitor that I have to play with. (The fonts seem so little compared to my old monitor. I'm sure I'll get used to it and all, but it feels weird.) And I have to get used to the ergo keyboard. Won't be difficult, but slightly different (I've already had to work at hitting the y and not the u.) But it's going to be so much fun to personalize it with crap (IM, bookmarks, blah, blah, blah...) Wheee!!

Oh yeah, and the other part that I forgot is that my internet access is working again from home. Thanks to my friend (an IT guy that I shamelessly used to fix my network and didn't even buy dinner for) who came over and fixed in 10 minutes what I couldn't fix in an hour of tinkering. It was a stupid settings thing on my wireless network at home. But everything works again, so I can surf, blog, pay bills and otherwise dork off online. Woohoo!

Slacking off

Hi guys. Long time, no blog, I know. And this won't be much of an entry either - merely wanted to let folks know that I'm alive. I'll have a tad more of an online presence when I get my internet connection working from home again. And then I'll post pics of my Hawaii trip and some more info about that. Til then, I'm going to merely mention that it's really weird to not have 'net access from home. I didn't realize how much I actually use it. Doh! And I'm calling SBC about it now - hopefully I won't have a story to tell about that - but I'm not holding my breath that it'll go smoothly.
