Yes, it's almost that time again. Time for me to hit the road in Europe. I leave Sept. 4 and arrive back here sometime at the end of Sept. (not yet sure exactly which day). The plan this year is a week in Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome), a two week tour of Berlin, Prague and Vienna, and then a random week of other (possibly Budapest, possibly Amsterdam, possibly Paris, or combinations thereof).
Should I blog my stuff here, or elsewhere? I don't really care if any of the normal readers of the movabletypo community read this blog, but I'm not sure I want co-workers connecting to this one, so I may have a separate blog elsewhere. Any thoughts?
Let me know if you'd like to receive postcards (in which case I'll need your snailmail address - don't assume I have it even if I've visited your house), or if you'd prefer blog or email updates. Or none of the above. I know it's still more than 2 weeks before I leave, but I'm trying to get things all cleaned up and ready for me to have a lovely time in Europe.
I've been thinking about whether there are any themes that I want to particularly try to capture either in photography or in blog topics. Currently leading the pack are: stupid tourist tricks (could be either/both), food (again, could be either but I'm thinking both of photographing the actual meals I eat as well as the lovely stalls of food in outdoor markets, etc. and of course descriptions of good food and wine along the way). Last time I did find a lot of alleys - maybe this time it'll be doorways and canals (as Venice obviously has a lot, but Amsterdam ones could be an interesting counterpoint). I like musueum-hopping and trying to capture what I learn or the connections or parallels that I make about various works of art, but those are a bit hard to capture on the fly - may need to wait for more extensive blogging when I return. I think I'm kind of "churched-out" from other trips, but if I find interesting gargoyles and can capture those, I'll do that. And maybe interesting architectural details, but maybe I'll at least keep those separate from the main bunch of pictures for those with no interest in that. Anything else?
